How One Family’s Journey Reflects the Power of Community and the Impact of CIP

In a recent December 2025 UniquelyYou feature, the Maver family of Clarkston, Michigan shared their remarkable story of resilience, advocacy, and hope. Raising three children with autism, PANDAS/PANS, and complex medical needs, Tammy and Pete Maver have spent decades navigating therapies, treatments, schooling decisions, and support systems—all while staying united as “Team Maver.”

While each child’s journey is unique, the UniquelyYou article highlights a turning point for their eldest son, Adam, whose path toward independence took shape at CIP Bloomington.

Adam’s CIP Experience: Growth, Structure, and Self-Discovery

After years of medical challenges, bullying, and recovering from a traumatic brain injury, Adam found stability and direction through CIP. The structured supports and individualized coaching at CIP allowed him to:

  • Build essential executive functioning and independent-living skills

  • Earn certifications in life coaching, motivational speaking, and holistic health

  • Establish meaningful routines, community connections, and a sense of identity

  • Experience independent living in a supported apartment setting

“Being at CIP has allowed me to be my true self,” Adam shared—an insight that reflects the growth and confidence he has developed on campus.

A Family Guided by Advocacy and Individualization

The Maver family’s story—captured beautifully in UniquelyYou—reinforces a belief central to CIP’s mission: every young adult deserves support that meets them where they are.

Tammy’s message to other families aligns deeply with the work CIP does every day:

“You know your child better than anyone. Trust your instincts—you are their advocate.”

The article also highlights the family’s commitment to holistic health, community programs, and individualized learning paths for Marissa and Andrew, Adam’s siblings—showing the importance of a comprehensive support network.

Honoring Resilience, One Milestone at a Time

The Mavers remind us that progress is not linear and that every milestone matters. Their journey reflects the power of persistence, the strength of community, and the life-changing impact of the right supports.

CIP is proud to be part of Adam’s ongoing story and remains committed to helping neurodivergent young adults nationwide build skills, confidence, and independence—one step at a time.
