Our First Summer Sessions@CIP is a Success!

With all the changes that 2020 brought to our families and students, CIP was up for the challenge of ensuring that this year - our 12th year of summer programming for high school students with autism, ADHD, and other learning differences - would be one of our best.

This year, CIP’s expert staff facilitated our first-ever virtual summer program, Summer Sessions@CIP, a two-week program for high school students.

Our 58 participants from around the world (with some coming from as far as Western Europe) had a blast making progress towards their goals, meeting new people, increasing their confidence towards their future transition, and having fun.

Students had an opportunity to participate in large group modules led by CIP staff in their area of expertise as well as hear from guest speakers.  Each participant also engaged in a smaller growth group with a CIP advisor to receive individual support.

The students enjoyed connecting with their peers during social activities and reported that their favorite activities were interactive card games and the subject-specific Zoom rooms.

Parents received frequent updates from their student’s advisor throughout the two-weeks, and an evaluation completed by CIP staff addressing the progress their student made in the areas of social interaction, executive functioning, and independent living skills.

Students had an opportunity to hear from other students during the closing ceremony where they presented their Person Center Plans and shared how they planned to accomplish their goals.

CIP’s theme-based curriculum provided support in fostering the skills needed for our students’ next steps into independence and establishing social connections with peers.

We are excited to share that families of those who attended rated Summer Sessions@CIP a 9 out of 10 in their likeliness to refer the program to a friend.

FROM THIS YEAR'S PARENTS

“I just wanted to thank all of you. These two weeks have been such an amazing opportunity for our student. He worried he wouldn’t be able to keep up and he sure did. He is so sad it’s over, as are his dad and I.  We thank you for giving him this great experience in a very unsure time in the world.” -Julia

“He was nervous about starting the program the first day, but now he is excited about it and looks forward to it!  I ask him, "Tell me you did in the program today," and he tells me all the things you all have been doing, and I can tell he's engaged.” -Carolyn

“I know that he’s really enjoying the camp I can overhear him when I’m upstairs and I’m impressed that he’s feeling so confident and really engaged and participating. Thank you again!” -Margaret
