Resources for Young Adults with Autism and Other Learning Differences

At CIP, we believe it's critical for our students with autism and other learning differences to assess the goals and benchmarks they’ve set for themselves on a regular basis. Our theory is that during times of transition especially, it's important to review where you’ve been and continue to map out where you plan on going. Our students don't let setbacks deter them from the progress that they’ve made. Autism & Learning Differences: An Active Learning Teaching Toolkit

Teaching essential skills for life, school, work, and independent living, this comprehensive and practical toolkit supports educators and clinicians in their work with adolescents and young adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Learning Difference (LD) diagnosis. It presents tried-and-true strategies that address difficulties with social skills and Executive Function, cognitive rigidity, self-esteem issues, and more. How easy is it for you or your student to keep your closet clean? Do you or your student often mix up dirty clothes from clean ones? This month, we're offering a simple tip sheet from the Autism LD Toolkit on keeping organized and finding your "pants" (or shoes, coat, underwear, etc.).

The excerpts from several chapters will illustrate an active/participatory teaching style that appears throughout the book.
