Paying Tribute to Maggi Sanderson and Mike Vaughn

At times in life, we’re faced with difficult and unexpected circumstances. We recently received the difficult news related to the passing of two former longtime, trusted, and loved CIP colleagues, both of whom made a tremendous impact on the CIP community. Our community is deeply saddened by the passing of both of these amazing individuals and our hearts go out to their families and loved ones.

Mike Vaughn, CIP Berkeley Social Skills Coordinator, passed away last week after battling health complications during an extended health leave of absence. Mike exuded a deep passion for his work at CIP, multimedia, and the community of Berkeley. He was a master of media and had a unique lens on life that was full of spirit and wonder.

Mike fused strong bonds with the entire CIP community, many of which have already shared their sadness for his passing and appreciation for his mentorship and guidance. He connected students to a variety of multimedia internships and thus helped them plot a course for future employment and fulfillment.  During his eight years at CIP, he touched the minds and hearts of many and continues to leave a lasting impact on all.

Maggi Sanderson, National Enrollment Specialist, passed at the end of July after many years of battling cancer. We had just recently received this news from her mother who asked us to thank everyone involved at CIP for helping to make her last bit of time so memorable. Maggi had an intricate knowledge of assessment of student fit and family needs in the admissions process.

Through her 13 years, she successfully guided thousands of families on their journey to CIP or otherwise by upholding high standards. She trained numerous staff members including myself on the intricacies of mental health, autism, learning differences, and human development. She was very involved in the world of performing arts throughout her life and a cat lover far beyond even most cat lover standards.

While this news is both shocking and sad, we can be comforted to know that both have left a lasting legacy and positive effect on a great many people's lives. Maggi and Mike will be smiling down on us for future days and years to come.

CIP will be making donations to Jacob’s Pillow Dance Company in Becket, Massachusetts, and Berkeley Community Media in downtown Berkeley, California in the names of both Maggi and Mike. We will pass along any information we receive in regard to possible services held in respect of Maggi and Mike.

Thank you both Maggi and Mike for continually spreading love, wisdom, and understanding to all. You will never be forgotten.

Sincerely,

Dan McManmon
