Five Centers, Three Cities, One Unforgettable Journey: CIP’s Global Engagement Trip 2025–2026

From December 27 through January 5, students and staff from all five CIP Centers came together for an unforgettable Global Engagement Trip through the heart of Eastern Europe. Over ten incredible days, CIP’s neurodiverse young adults explored the historic cities of Budapest, Kraków, and Prague—experiencing rich culture, deep history, and meaningful connection every step of the way.

Over the years, CIP has created staff-supported international travel experiences designed specifically for students in CIP’s Full-Year Program. This year’s journey once again blended adventure, personal growth, and community—offering students the chance to celebrate the new year abroad while strengthening independence and lifelong friendships.

A Journey Through History and Culture

Each city offered its own distinct character and lessons.

In Budapest, students admired the breathtaking architecture of Fisherman’s Bastion, took in sweeping views of the Danube, and explored grand city landmarks that reflect Hungary’s layered history. Walking across historic bridges and through lively squares, students experienced firsthand the blend of old-world charm and modern European vibrancy.

In Kraków, the group stepped into a city steeped in medieval beauty and resilience. Students explored the historic Old Town, connected with centuries of tradition, and reflected during meaningful visits that brought history beyond the pages of textbooks. Descending into the remarkable Wieliczka Salt Mines was a highlight—an underground world of intricate carvings and chapels that left a lasting impression.

In Prague, students wandered through cobblestone streets, visited Prague Castle, and gathered beneath the famous Astronomical Clock. From the colorful charm of Golden Lane to the grandeur of the city’s skyline, Prague offered countless moments of awe and shared discovery.

Building Community Across All Five Centers

One of the most powerful aspects of the Global Engagement Trip was the opportunity for students from CIP’s five centers to travel together. What began as a group of individuals from across the country quickly became a unified community.

Shared meals, guided tours, laughter on bus rides, and conversations during daily reflections strengthened bonds among students and staff. Traveling abroad encouraged collaboration, flexibility, and mutual support—creating an environment where friendships naturally deepened.

By the end of the trip, students had not only explored three remarkable cities, but had also built connections that extended far beyond the journey itself.

Growth Beyond the Passport

While the sights were unforgettable, the personal growth experienced along the way was equally meaningful.

Students practiced independence by managing travel routines, preparing for daily itineraries, and adapting to new environments. Navigating unfamiliar cities strengthened executive functioning skills, problem-solving abilities, and confidence.

Social skills flourished as students communicated, collaborated, and supported one another in real-world settings. Cultural immersion broadened perspectives, fostering greater global awareness and appreciation for diverse traditions and histories.

The experience was not just about seeing the world—it was about learning to move through it with greater confidence and curiosity.

Ringing in the New Year Abroad

Spending the holiday season overseas made this trip especially memorable. Celebrating the New Year together in Europe added a layer of excitement and reflection, marking both a literal and symbolic fresh start for many students as they continue their journeys at CIP.

A Lasting Impact

As the group returned home they brought back far more than souvenirs and photographs. They returned with strengthened independence, expanded worldviews, and friendships formed across states and centers.

CIP’s 2025–2026 Global Engagement Trip once again demonstrated that international travel can be a powerful catalyst for growth. Through exploration, connection, and shared adventure, students experienced the world—and themselves—in new and transformative ways.
