Berkshire Eagle: Pittsfield 'Shines a Light' on Autism

From Pittsfield's Park Square to the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil, landmarks from around the globe were illuminated in blue on Thursday in support of World Autism Awareness Day...

 

Victor Hirshfield, 24, represents how supportive staff and services can help a person affected by autism find success in life. Now in his fourth year attending the College Internship Program in Lee, the once self-described "very shy" young man has been able to overcome his difficulties learning in school and anxieties with social interactions. He's currently taking a college-level math class at Berkshire Community College, has several friends, and is in his second year of working at an internship with The Berkshire Gold & Silversmith in Great Barrington.
